1) ME T-Shirt Contest. We're looking for new designs for 2016.
* The tees will be for students, staff and faculty
* Design should be unisex
* Minimal color or black and white would be best as the shirt will probably be navy, grey, white, or black depending on the design
* I will need a vector version of the image as well as a normal image file (like a png or jpeg)
* We will only be accepting designs from students in Mechanical Engineering (we also discourage you from submitting someone else's design because we would not be able to credit them in any way)
Every year, we are asked if we can sell the t-shirts. The bottom line is that UC Berkeley does not let individuals or departments sell their logos, or anything associated with UCB in any way, unless you are a licensed vendor (and we cannot become one). However, if we have a design that does not refer/allude to UCB directly, we would be able to sell the shirt. For instance, if we did not have UC Berkeley but had Berkeley, California instead, and it was not in blue and gold, that would work. Or if it only mentioned Mechanical Engineering and not UCB in any way (and it wasn't in blue and gold). Anyhow, I'm not suggesting that your design not be affiliated with UCB, but I just thought I would throw it out there just in case anyone had any creative ideas. Designs are due to me by Monday, February 29th.
2) We would like to update our "ME@ME" display on the 3rd floor. I would love any new photos you could share of yourself (on vacation, with family/friends). Be sure to send me a short caption as well.

SUNFEST, or the Summer Undergraduate Fellowship in Sensor Technologies, is a unique program that provides talented undergraduate students with hands-on research during the summer in the area of sensor technologies.
This program provides:
- Summer research experience with a stipend of $4,850
- On-campus housing is provided at no or minimal cost
- Partial travel support for non-Penn students
- Opportunity to work on an interesting interdisciplinary topic
- Work under the mentorship of a faculty member and a graduate student
- Participate in workshops on how to give effective presentations, how to write technical reports, how to apply for graduate school
- Learn about ethics in engineering and science
Each year an average of 10 students, ending their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college, are selected from various universities nationwide based on their academic record and attitude towards research. The program is open to students in engineering and the physical sciences.
The purpose of this program is to expose the students to real, in-depth research in the area of sensor technology and to motivate them to go on to graduate school. This program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation as a REU Site (Research Experience for Undergraduates) and the Center for Sensor Technologies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mindtribe provides product development and engineering services to clients. In other words, companies hire us to build their products for them - typically hardware that requires electrical, mechanical, and firmware components. Developing products with our clients is similar in many ways to extended project classes – we work in close-knit teams of typically 2 - 5 engineers to bring something new into the world. Day-to-day, here are some examples of things that make us happy:
• The smell of fresh 3D printing in the morning.
• Getting friendly with SolidWorks' draft angle tools to get a part ready for mass-production.
• Hearing that a one-off demo prototype worked so well that the client is using it to run user tests.
• The subtle, delicate art of the interference fit
• Wielding SoldWorks keyboard shortcuts like a CAD ninja
Your work has focused on analytical and empirical approaches to mechanical design, applying your favorite principles from mechanics of materials and fluid dynamics, rapid prototyping, and machine design.
As an intern, you’d be tackling tasks like these, personally owning anything you’re capable of taking on and working in tandem with senior engineers for more complex tasks.

Your school has been invited to participate in the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST's) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program for students majoring in science, engineering, and mathematics. This letter contains information about the program that operates at NIST’s Boulder, Colorado, campus and NIST's Gaithersburg, Maryland, campus.
Applications for participation in the SURF program are accepted only from colleges or universities and not from individual students or faculty.
