To continue the promise, possibilities, and excellence of the world-renowned Mechanical Engineering Department, a strategic renewal plan has been designed to maintain Etcheverry Hall's vitality in the 21st century. The plan will modernize classrooms and integrate up-to-date teaching technologies. Laboratories will be enhanced to promote interdisciplinary exchange that will speed the development of new solutions.
This fund provides vital support for the department's world-class instructional and research programs, and for other high-priority strategic initiatives as determined by the chair of the department.
This fund is an endowment, the payout of which supports high-achieving graduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Preference is given to those studying material behavior and the application of material behavior to design.
As a tribute to Professor Emeritus John Wehausen, friends and colleagues have started a fund-raising effort to establish a John Wehausen Memorial Scholarship at Berkeley for graduate students interested in Wehausen's areas: marine fluid mechanics, surface waves, ship hydrodynamics.
