The 38th Annual Expanding Your Horizons in Math and Science conference for young women is scheduled for March 17, 2018 at Skyline College in San Bruno. We once again served over 1,200 students last year, so volunteer workshop presenters are always needed to make this conference successful. Our focus is on hands-on activities in STEM-related areas, and we know that you could be a valuable asset to our program. We must confirm our volunteer presenters by November 15th every year.
The goals of the conference are:
- To promote education as a means of expanding young women’s possibilities
- To foster awareness of career prospects for women in STEM fields
- To increase young women’s interest in STEM opportunities
- To provide students an opportunity to meet and form personal contacts with women working in traditional and non-traditional STEM occupations

Although there are quite some openings out in design teams our primary focus being CAE, I have provided an overview of the CAE ( Computer Aided Engineering) team as below.
The CAE team is responsible for the performances in the domains of Vehicle crash, occupant safety, Strength & durability, Structural NVH & Multiphysics across the entire vehicle platforms through usage of advanced analytical / Test methodologies. These analytical methods used in the group cover a wide range linear and non-linear using explicit, implicit and rigid body solvers. Virtual engineering plays a very significant role in the Tesla design process helping to achieve tight timing and very high performance requirements (5 star US NCAP). Being predictive in CAE is a major focus of the teams work as design decisions are made months in advance of being able to obtain test results.

UCB participants include the Lawrence Hall of Science, the Berkeley Public Service Center, the Coalition for Education and Outreach (CEO), Science@Cal, the Berkeley Research Development Office, and the Vice Chancellor for Research Office.
In partnership with the Sonoma Office of Education, we are collecting donations from Monday, October 23 to Thursday, November 2.

The WindAid Institute Program
Our 4-week volunteer program offers an opportunity to learn about design, construction, and installation of a wind turbine and see its direct impact on rural families and communities.
You get hands-on experience in all steps of designing, building and installing a turbine as part of a team. You will use carbon fiber, fiberglass, resin composites, steel structures and welding, electrical systems, aerodynamics, and much more; all the while getting to experience the life and cultures of Peru.
There are no pre-requisite skills, although an engineering and/or sustainability background and some Spanish language can enhance the experience. We seek out passionate, enthusiastic individuals hungry to learn and create a positive change in the lives of others.

Our four week project groups fill up fast, so apply soon! We do charge a fee which covers your accommodation, food and transport to site, and contributes to the workshop and build materials. We have projects year-round so you can apply any time. See full dates and costs on our Website.

Failure Analysis Applications Engineer
The Applications Engineer will be responsible for carrying out product and system level analyses to determine the root cause of product application failures.
Debugging and functionality verification of AC/DC and DC/DC switching power supply modules in various topologies using Power Integrations’ products will be an essential part of the job responsibility.
Responsibility will also include effective verbal and written communication of results, which will be used to drive improvements in product design, process technology, and applications. Such communication will require, but not limited to, writing cogent and convincing technical reports suitable for external customers.
BSEE or equivalent discipline is required.
0-3 years of experience in power supply application engineering and/or failure analysis involving power semiconductors, analog, and/or mixed signal devices.
Candidates with experience in switching power supply design or applications engineering will be given preference.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of analog, mixed-signal, or power semiconductor operational characteristics and the ability to apply fault isolation techniques at chip level as well as board level.

Through its scholarships, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC&R field, part of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industry. The Society’s Scholarship Program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in HVAC&R.
Over the course of 29 years ASHRAE has awarded nearly $2 million to nearly 400 deserving students. Scholarships are $10,000 each.
