Undergraduate Announcement 10/13/17

ME HOUSEKEEPING

1)  I need a volunteer or two to help with an event for prospective junior transfers on Friday 10/20.  It would be for 12:45pm to ~2pm.  I can provide a MechE t-shirt to volunteers.  Please let me know.  Thanks!

2)  F17 Entry Junior Transfers:  If you haven't got your Enrollment Forms to your Faculty Advisers for an approval signature and returned them to me, you are currently blocked from Spring 2018 enrollment.  Your next opportunity to have the block removed will be Drop-In Advising on Tuesday, Oct 17th, 10am-3:30pm, in 3110 Etcheverry Hall.

3)  Just in case you hadn't noticed, E27's labs have been updated and are now available for you to see on the course schedule.

4)  I will be out of the office Wednesday, 10/18 through Tuesday, 10/24.  Please plan accordingly.

5)  Save the Date:  MechE and ASME are bringing you the first faculty AMA ("Ask Me Anything") for F17 on Wednesday, November 1st.  It will be with Professor O'Reilly.

6)  Save the Date:  MechE is having a welcome party for all of our new Ugrads (and all of the MechE Ugrads are invited):  10/30, 3pm-5pm, in the Etcheverry/Soda Etcheverry Esplanade.  Food from Top Dog!

Have a peaceful weekend, avoid smoke exposure if you can, and don't forget put some good thoughts out there for those who have been affected by all of the crazy stuff (fires, hurricanes, etc.) that's been going on.

New Phase 1 Enrollment Policy for Dept. of Math

The Department has decided that during "Phase 1" of registration, seats in the following five "core" upper-division courses will be saved for students who are declared in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics as well as for undeclared students in the College of Letters & Science:

Math 104: Introduction to Analysis

Math 110:  Linear Algebra

Math 113:  Introduction to Abstract Algebra

Math 128A:  Numerical Analysis

Math 185:   Complex Analysis

Graduate students, undergraduates from outside of Letters & Science, and declared Letters & Science students who aren't double or triple majoring with Math would need to wait until Phase 2 to add these courses.

The department remains committed to doing our best to meet the tremendous demand for math courses from all majors.
