The Wine Country is an intricate patchwork of appellations that span across three counties showcasing 400 wineries with distinctive contemporary and ancient architectural styles, breathtaking panoramas, world-class restaurants and gourmet food stores.
Some of the finest wines in the world are produced in this region. The Mediterranean climate provides exceptional growing conditions for several grape varietals, olives, lavender and numerous exotic herbs featured in our wonderful restaurants.
A professional tour guide will provide information that piece all this together. The tour will depart from the Hotel Durant at Berkeley at 10:00 am and will return at 5:15 p.m. to the Men’s Faculty Club in the Berkeley Campus, where the opening ceremony will be held.
| The first stop of the tour will be at the Rutherford Hill Winery, nestled high in the eastern hills of Napa valley and commands a spectacular view of Napa Valley's Rutherford Bench. From a handful of the most select Napa vineyards Rutherford Hill continues its tradition of crafting legendary wines. In addition to tasting its excellent chardonnays, merlots, cabernet sauvignons, and other bends, we will tour its famed wine storage caves. Rutherford Hill was one of the first wineries in the Napa Valley to recommence cave construction. Carved deep into the cliffs behind the winery, the caves of Rutherford Hill are regarded as one of the most extensive wine-aging cave systems in America. Tunnels, galleries and passageways, extending for nearly a mile, contain over 8,000 barrels of select French and American oak. |
 |
The second stop in the tour will be at the Ceja Vineyards, a boutique wine production company founded by Pedro, Amelia, Armando and Martha Ceja, third generation winegrowers in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, and produces exceptional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
The third stop of the tour will be at the Sonoma Plaza. Designed 150 years ago by the Mexican Governor Mariano Vallejo, the Sonoma Plaza is an eight-acre park, filled with stately trees and pedestrian paths, and has at its center the Sonoma City Hall. Surrounding the Plaza are numerous shops, restaurants and historical sites. The charming small-town character of Sonoma continues to attract and captivate travelers from around the globe. |
