Notes on Transition to New Curriculum

  1. All incoming freshmen in Fall 2007 will follow the new curriculum.
  2. All students with sophomore, junior, or senior status in Fall 2007 will follow the old curriculum.
  3. All junior transfers that enter in Fall 2007 and Fall 2008 will follow the old curriculum. Subsequent junior transfer admits will follow the new curriculum.
  4. All transfers from other majors who would have sophomore status in Fall 2007 will follow the old curriculum. All transfers from other majors who would have sophomore status in Fall 2008 (and later) will follow the new curriculum.
  5. Required ME-sponsored courses of the old curriculum that will discontinued, substantially changed or renumbered will be offered for the last time in their current format and with the current number according to the following plan:

    Course

    Last offering

    E 28 (old version) S 08
    E 77 S 07
    ME 105 F 08
    MEC 124 S 09
    ME 102 F 09
    ME 107A F 09
    ME 107B S 10

  6. New, substantially changed, or renumbered required courses in the ME curriculum will be offered for the first time in their new format or with their new number according to the following plan:

    Course
    First Offering
    E 10 F 07
    E 7 F 07
    E 28 (new version) F 08
    ME 40 S 09
    ME C85 F 08 (pilot may be offered in S 08)
    ME 108 F 09
    ME 102A S 10
    ME 102B S 10
    ME 107 F 10

  7. For students that fall behind in their "old curriculum" plan and need to take old courses after they are discontinued, the following equivalencies will be granted:

    Old Course
    Equivalent New Course
    E 28 (old version) E 28 (new version)
    E 77 E 7 (as already discussed in 5.)
    ME 105 ME 40
    ME 107A ME 102A
    ME 102 ME 102B
    ME 107B ME 107
    E 36 + CE 130 ME C85
    ME C124 ME 108

These equivalencies should be also entered into DARS to avoid confusion during advising.
  8. E7 is an equivalent course to E77 with minimal content change. I have already asked the DARS people to insert the equivalency in their system.
  9. While ME105 will replaced by ME40, MEC105B will remain in the books and will count as equivalent to ME40.
  10. E 190M will be required of all ME majors and should be taken concurrently
with ME102A. The discussion for putting this course in place has been initiated with IDS, which will sponsor this course. Its start semester is S 10.
