Computer Support
Computer and Network Services (CNS). CNS oversees the computing resources and data nework operations for the instructional, research, and administrative divisions of the department. This group operates, manages and maintains six instructional computer-based laboratories used by graduate and undergraduate students.
 
Davis Etcheverry Computing Facility (DECF). DECF provides servers and two client labs open for students, faculty and staff use. The open lab includes workstations, PCs, multimedia equipment as well as a wide range of available software.
 
Keys/Cardkeys
To obtain keys/cardkeys for Etcheverry and Hesse Halls, contact Dan Essley, dessley@nuc.berkeley.edu, 2-7789, 6161 Etcheverry Hall, Tuesday through Friday 9:00 - 11:00 AM. The following MUST be COMPLETED before any keys can be issued:
 
Mechanical key request. Students and visitors are reqiured to pay a $20.00 deposit (check or money order only; no cash) which covers all keys. The deposit is required when keys are issued. The deposit will be refunded when keys are returned to 5102 EH.
 
Cardkey request. Faculty must submit approval via email for doors with coded entry. There is a $10.00 activation fee (non refundable) due with the cardkey application. A fee of $10.00 will be charged to replace lost cardkeys.
 
Lost and Found
Lost items may be turned in or retrieved in 6141 Etcheverry Hall.
 
Mail
In accordance with University policy, please do not have legal or personal business mail such as bank statements, Motor Vehicles notices or magazines sent to the department. Outgoing business mail needs a barcode in order to leave campus. See faculty support staff (5102 Etcheverry) to get the proper labels. Personal mail must be sent via outside mail facilities. Visiting scholars may get permission to charge business mail to their host professor's grant.
 
Mail is picked up and delivered once per day.
 
Office Supplies/Purchasing
Department office supplies can be given to staff, faculty and visiting faculty only. Please limit your use of these supplies as they are one of our biggest areas of expense. Order through Melissa Varian 6141 EH, 2-1338, m_varian@me.berkeley.edu
 
Room Reservations
Conference rooms in Etcheverry can be reserved by faculty and staff in Mechanical Engineering only. If you are an ME student, you may request that a staff person make the reservation for you. Faculty and staff can access on-line room reservations.

Webmail
Web-based Mail is an email system that allows you to read your email from any computer connected to the Internet using a web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. The Web Mail system will use IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) to download email from the server, which is particularly suitable to mobile users who like to access their mail on multiple computers.
