ME Professor Mohammad Mofrad, along with his colleagues in the Department of Bioengineering, has received a 2014-2015 Presidential Chair Fellows Curriculum Enrichment Grant. This program provides the opportunity for faculty teams to transform core areas of the undergraduate curriculum. A unique aspect of the Curriculum Enrichment Grant Program is its foundation of scholarly exchange in the form of a year-long learning community for grant recipients. Monies awarded through the program provide support and a pathway for graduate student researchers to refine and hone skills in conducting evaluation and participating in program-level curriculum dialogue.

ME Professor Andrew Packard has been appointed to the FANUC Chair of Mechanical Systems.

ME Professor Francesco Borrelli has been appointed to the new Howard Penn Brown Chair in Mechanical Engineering. This new chair is to “support the career development of a gifted faculty member in ME” and is to be “held by a professor who is early in his/her career such as an assistant professor, an associate professor, or a full professor who recently received tenure.”

ME Professor Xiang Zhang has been selected to receive the 2014 Nancy DeLoye Fitzroy and Roland V. Fitzroy Medal "for pioneering contributions in metamaterials and the creation of the first optical superlens to overcome the fundamental diffraction limit in imaging; and for the invention of plasmonic lithography technology that enabled nanoscale manufacturing, which is important for microelectronics and data storage applications."
