This project consists of an experimental investigation into carotid
bifurcation. The model seen below is a based on the artery of a
live patient. From the plaque removed, a mold was created from
which male molds could be used for models. For this project the male
mold was placed into a lucite box and the female mold seen below is created.
An in-house pump pushes isopropyl alcohol containing small metal flakes.
As this occurs, cameras mounted around the setup can take flow-visualization
or, in combination with the Nd-Yag Laser, PIV data can be taken.
