Various spatial scales correspond to macroscopic and microscopic of continuum material response, mesoscopic scales of discrete dislocations and nano-scales of atomistic and quantum descriptions. Material behavior at each of these scales is also governed by different time-scale response. The proposed symposium will try to bring together a group of researchers who are working towards bridging critical gaps between two or more length and/or time scales. The application domains will encompass heterogeneous material behavior, structural failure and fatigue, ductility, aging and environmental degradation. The materials considered may be conventional and nano- composites, metals and alloys and bio-materials and others. Methods used can encompass finite elements and other continuum numerical methods, discrete dislocation modeling, molecular dynamics and ab-initio methods.
