Such variational integrators are known to obey the underlying physics in the sense that they introduce no artificial numerical dissipation and preserve the geometric structure including the symplectic or multi-symplectic structure, conservation of angular momentum, and/or conservation of circulation when applicable. In this mini-symposium, the presentation will be centered on new results in discrete variational solid and fluid mechanics, including those based on discrete Hamilton- Pontryagin principles.
