UC ME Department Formula SAE Team starts new racer design

Preliminary layout work for the Formula SAE 2008 car was done using a mock chassis built out of ABS plastic tubing. The mockup has been translated into a 3D model, and the Formula SAE team is now in the process of tweaking the chassis design. A radical departure from their previous vehicles, the new car will use a Honda CRF-450X single cylinder engine. This selection has given the team the flexibility to design a signficiantly lighter chassis, as well as improve the ergonomics of the driver's position.
