Dennis K. Lieu, professor of mechanical engineering, has been appointed Associate Dean of Student Affairs. His new responsibilities include overseeing undergraduate recruitment, retention, admissions, and advising for the College of Engineering. He will also oversee the CUES program for the college.
Professor Lieu joined the department in 1988. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley in 1982 and worked several years in private industry.
His research interests include acoustics, actuators, electromechanical devices, magnetics, rolling elements, spindle motors and structural mechanics.
Professor Lieu's honors includes the Oppenheimer Award for best presentation at ASEE/EDGD Midyear Conference (2003), the Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of California, Berkeley (1992), the Pi Tau Sigma Award for Excellence in Teaching, UC Berkeley (1990), and the Presidential Young Investigator Award, NSF (1989).
