The Chevron Corporation has announced that the 2007 Chevron-Berkeley Fellowship in Mechanical Engineering has been awarded to ME graduate student Eugenio Urquiza Fernández.

The Fellowship is intended to support the graduate research of students who are working in the research areas of energy conversion and consists of an award of $16,000 for a term of one year. All graduate students in Mechanical Engineering were eligible to apply.

A native of Mexico, Urquiza entered the M.S./Ph.D program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley in 2003 after receiving his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University. His research focuses on the thermal modeling and mechanical design of an intermediate heat exchanger for the high temperature heat transfer conditions of a new nuclear power plant design. He is co-advised by Professor Per Peterson (NE) and Professor Ralph Greif (ME).

Dave Kramer of the Chevron Corporation presented the award to Mr. Urquiza at a luncheon on June 15th.
