Keaveny Elected Member for NIH

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) - Center for Scientific Review awarded Professor Tony Keaveny as a member of the Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal Study Section - a very competitive and prestigious position which brings great value to medical and allied research in this country.

Professor Keaveny demonstrated mature judgment and objectivity as well as the ability to work effectively in a group, qualities which NIH says Professor Keaveny has and will bring to this important task. Professor Keaveny's participation includes: contribution to the national biomedical research effort, review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications, and survey the status of research in his fields of science.

Ellie Ehrenfeld, Ph.D., Director, said that members were selected on the basis of their "competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors."

Professor Keaveny's term begins immediately and ends June 30, 2006. Professor Tony Keaveny is a professor of bioengineering, mechanical engineering, and assistant professor of orthopedic surgery, UCSF.
