J. Karl Hedrick has been named the ASME 2006 Rufus Oldenburger Medalist "for seminal contributions to nonlinear estimation and control; and pioneering work on vehicle dynamics and control which has significantly influenced dynamicists, control theorists and engineers worldwide."

The Rufus Oldenburger Medal recognizes significant contributions and outstanding achievements in the field of automatic control. Such achievemets may be, for example, in the areas of education, research, development, innovation, and service to the field and profession.  

The award was established in 1968 by the Automatic Control Division (now the Dynamic Systems and Control Division) to honor Rufus Oldenburger for his distinctive achievements in the field and for his service to the Society and the Division.

Professor Hedrick joins other ME Berkeley faculty members who have received this award, including Yasundo Takahashi (1978), George Leitmann (1995) and Masayoshi Tomizuka (2002).
