Only a few U.S. design schools were on Business Week's list of top design schools in the world. Professor Agogino started ME290P, the course highlighted in Business Week, early in her career at Berkeley and later partnered with Sara Beckman at the Haas School of Business and Leslie Speer at the California College of Arts and San Jose State to add business and industrial design components.

The Business Week article describes this partnership and the Management of Technology certificate program:

"Berkeley and CCA are known for their twelve-year-old partnership in a product design course, where engineers, business students, and designers work on prototypes and business plans. In addition, Berkeley's own business programs offer courses in design as strategy, design thinking, and labs in innovation and technology, as well as a certificate program in management of technology that folds in most of the design-related classes"

The Haas School of Business describes this course as the cornerstone of their design program:

"Haas teaches several courses that incorporate design thinking in business. The cornerstone is a 12-year old "Managing New Product Development" course in which teams of business, engineering, and design graduate students research and develop new products and build prototypes."
