ME graduate student Harshil Goel is featured in the Spring 2015 issue of Berkeley ENGINEER for his role in developing the Vires Aero with fellow Berkeley students, right here in the student machine shop in Etcheverry Hall.

The Tensegrity Robot Team brought their UC Berkeley prototypes to the Silicon Valley Robot Block Party recently for National Robotics Week. Members of ME Professor Alice Agogino's BEST Lab and MEng students were featured by Computerword and IDG.tv for their contributions to the prototype.

On April 11th, alumni of ME Professor Costas Grigoropoulos' Laser Thermal Lab (LTL) gathered to honor the professor's 60th birthday, and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the LTL. Professor Grigoropoulos founded the LTL in 1990 after becoming a faculty member at UC Berkeley, and has since has been a pioneer and international authority in laser materials processing and thermal transport. Congratulations to ME Graduate Student Zi Jing Wong for receiving the MRS Gold Graduate Award for his presentation on Parity-Time Symmetry Breaking Laser at the 2015 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco. The MRS Graduate Student Awards are intended to honor and encourage graduate students whose academic achievements and current materials research display a high order of excellence and distinction.

ME alumna Vi Rapp was recently highlighted by KQED for her work at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a research scientist and mechanical engineer. Click here to learn more about Rapp and the team she is working with to design a new wood-burning cookstove that will produce one-tenth the pollution of traditional cooking fires.

ME Professor Mohammad Mofrad has been elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE)'s College of Fellows. Founded in 1991, AIMBE serves to advocate on issues impacting the medical and biological engineering community.
