What you need to know to get your schedule ready for the Spring 2012 Semester
Phase I of Telebears will begin in October. In order to register for Spring 2012, ALL ME Undegraduate Students will need to be advised on their schedule and obtain an advisor code (without which one cannot enroll in courses).
To ensure each of our students gets an opportunity to be advised, the department provides both Group and Individual Advising. Please find information on each below.
Early Drop-In Advising
What: An event where students are able to be advised by faculty, staff, and senior students. You can obtain your advisor code here, and, if you do, you will not need to go to your faculty member for individual advising unless you so choose. This is a great option for students who already have a clear idea of their future schedules, but all are welcome.
Please note that Undeclared students should see Professor Zohdi for his individual sessions and Double-Majors should see their own Faculty Advisors for ease of advising.
When: October 10, 2011
Time: 9am-4pm
Where: 3110 Etcheverry Hall
Individual Advising
Who is my advisor? (CLICK HERE)
What: Each student in the ME department is assigned a faculty advisor. The advisor assignments can be found at http://www.me.berkeley.edu/StudentAffairs/CurrentStudents/Undergraduate/UgradAdvisersF11.pdf. To set up an appointment with your advisor, please use the sign-up sheet on his/her door at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment to ensure that s/he will be in.
When: Wednesday, October 12th - Tuesday, October 18th.
(please be sure to attend at during these dates if you do not participate in Group Advising - faculty will be expecting you and will not be able to give Advisor Codes via email)
Where: Faculty Offices
What Documents You'll Need To Bring
To ensure that advising time is productive and that we can advise you properly, we cheerfully insist that you bring the following documents with you (you will not be advised without them):
- An unofficial transcript
- A completed TeleBears Form (for the Faculty to keep, please make a copy if you would like to keep one)
- A copy of the ME Curriculum
- A completed ME Degree Check Form
(Seniors should refer to the COE Website for Current Students for their own worksheets)
General Announcements
- Students can take the following courses in either Fall or Spring: EECS 100, ME 104, ME 108 and ME 132, as long as the prerequisites are met.
- The B-2 list for the reading and composition requirement will be eliminated effective the end of summer 2011. The new policy applies only to students who haven't completed the second half of the reading and composition requirement at the end of summer 2011. If you have any questions about this change, please contact your ESS adviser.
- Students should endeavor to take their Reading and Composition courses in their Freshman and Sophomore years. Beginning in Fall 2012, enrollment will be restricted to lower division students. For more information about the R&C requirement, please see http://registrar.berkeley.edu/RCFAQ.html.
- ME 102A and ME 108 both require a lecture, a discussion and a lab.
- E190M will no longer be a required course. Its material will be absorbed by ME102A.

- Students can take E45 as a lower division technical elective.
- The placement test is not required for ME102A.
